Kid Friendly Interior Design

July 10, 2018 by carole Leave a Comment

Kid friendly interior design means what exactly?

I thought this was a fitting subject with kids underfoot for the summer. It is definitely open to interpretation and very subjective. Some folks want high design, perhaps necessitating a “no” touching rule. Others prefer a relaxed...Read More

Spanish Decorating Ikat Cheetah Rug Sherwin Williams Dover White

I have been in a perpetual state of picking the right white paint for the last two years, it seems.

Now, it really hasn’t been two WHOLE years and, to be fair, it was three paints for three different locations. And, let me also preface this whole discussion with…there is no right...Read More

Bachelor Pad Ideas

March 12, 2018 by carole Leave a Comment

We sometimes get gentlemen design clients who ask for  comfortable bachelor pad ideas that are also attractive to women.

This is achievable by combining the right masculine touches with a nod to femininity that won’t overwhelm the bachelor. Many soft good design pieces (pillows,...Read More

Antique Stores in Raleigh

Antique Stores in Raleigh Antiques Emporium

There is one fierce bunch of estrogen fueling the local economy and beautifying the homes of Raleigh.

If there is one thing I learned when I developed the idea of Design District Raleigh, it is that ladies are doing the lion’s share of antique stores in Raleigh. Five years ago,...Read More

2018 Home Decor Trends

Pantone Ultra Violet Paint Color

I am generally not a fan of these lists as I prefer to promote the time-honored, not trends.

This year since there are so many 2018 home decor trends that border on classic, I would be remiss not to embrace them. So many folks have written on this subject in the weeks prior and I have compiled...Read More

When consulting with our clients we often provide redesign services where we use existing décor, restyling their home with fresh eyes. In particular, collections compiled...Read More

Multi Functional Furniture

murphy bed desk

I have been thinking a lot lately about the tiny house craze and stealing ideas for multi functional furniture from these minuscule masterpieces.

Even if you live in a larger home or perhaps are downsizing to a smaller but not so tiny house, there are still very practical ideas for multi...Read More

Creating a Calm Oasis with Color

May 1, 2016 by carole Leave a Comment

I don’t know about you but I am weary of the big box store interiors, devoid of color.

Or the Gospel according to RH (that’s Restoration Hardware), as I like to call it.  These in-store vignettes imply that Belgian linen, grey and books unnaturally wrapped in all-white covers...Read More

September 22, 2015 by carole 1 Comment

Let’s be honest…who doesn’t love a good gallery wall?

Carole Marcotte

My name is Carole and I am a caring, efficient and passionate interior decorator. I help clients create stylish, functional homes that respect their past while designing for their future. After extensive research, I work tirelessly to blend clients’ existing and new decor into the overall design scheme. I love what I do.

My ideal for the design world in general (I can dream big, can’t I?): People will stop buying crap, refurbish and highlight their existing treasures and, if they absolutely need more stuff, buy only resale items (vintage, antique, consignment or the like). And if it must be new stuff, it will provide significant function, environmental sustainability or support our artists and thereby feed our soul. I am on a mission…care to join me?

My blog is a little bit decorating tips, a little bit travel, and a whole lotta love and design musings. Xo
