Decorating with Red

February 12, 2019 by carole Leave a Comment

I think decorating with red should happen wherever and whenever possible.

Of course, I am a little biased since red shows up in my own home quite a bit. I love the warmth that red gives as part of an overall decorating scheme. There are different ways and approaches to decorating with red.

Decorating with Red Walls

Take for example our client’s powder room below that sports bold, red wallpaper. We used this warm persimmon red paper since it also appears in other areas of the home. Read here for more about this home and how we incorporated red throughout.

Decorating with Red Accents in a Room

A little sprinkle of red repeated in a room makes for a nice motif. For the client below we suggested painting the backs of the bookshelves red. We then repeated the red in the coffee table styling with accessories and books.

I did the same in my living room, repeating the red of the side table in art, accessories and the trim on the curtains.

Decorating with Red as the Star

Perhaps you have one fabulous item that you want to feature in a room and it may be the only example of that color. And perhaps that item is red. For this client below, her red sofa takes center stage.

Or how about this red rug dangling from the loft area above? Blue and grey dominate our furnishing selections for the client below. The red rug was part of an extensive antique collection and adds some relief to the blue scheme.

Decorating with Red in a Purposeful Scheme

You might try a highly thematic room with repeated color throughout. For the design below, we did a black, white and red theme with red acting as the punchy accent.

And for the two rooms below, red and white are repeated in the fabrics, accents and books.

Whatever you decide, red can add a lot to your rooms. And, of course, Happy Valentine’s Day to you and yours…the holiday that inspired this post in the first place. For some more great ideas about decorating with red read here.
