Bookshelf Styling Inspiration With Pottery Art

I love styling my own bookshelves and, with some actual time on my hands, I’ve come up with 7 bookshelf inspiration ideas.

First of all, a little recap…Mr. F&F and I had an opportunity in Raleigh’s hot real estate market to sell our building. I intended to do retail...Read More

Saved the best for last with styling tips for your home.

This is the stuff I dream about. We’re at the end of a project, the furniture placement is tweaked and the art is mostly hung. We then pull out our very best styling tips to add the final layer. We love to “shop”...Read More

Kid Friendly Interior Design

July 10, 2018 by carole Leave a Comment

Kid friendly interior design means what exactly?

I thought this was a fitting subject with kids underfoot for the summer. It is definitely open to interpretation and very subjective. Some folks want high design, perhaps necessitating a “no” touching rule. Others prefer a relaxed...Read More

Vintage Desk Accessories

August 14, 2014 by carole Leave a Comment

Vintage desk accessories provide a nice alternative to big box store options.

Your desk. Where hard work, a calendar overrun with notes, and perhaps even some aggressive paper shuffling meet. It’s a place to get things done, but it can also be a place that you enjoy with some vintage...Read More

Laundry Room Organization Easy Tip

I have open shelving in this laundry room, so cannot stash things out of sight.  It is also a pass-through room from the mudroom to the laundry room to the bathroom.  I wanted it to be somewhat “pretty” and eventually will wallpaper...Read More

Design Lessons I Learned From My Mother

February 24, 2014 by carole Leave a Comment

I am in Canada (a.k.a. The Frozen Tundra), visiting my folks, and I am reminded of how influential my mother’s design aesthetic has been on my own.  My parents moved into this condo, almost 19 years ago, after moving out of the family home where we were raised.   Things have changed...Read More

All About Bathrooms

All About Bathrooms

We’ve got a lot of projects happening round here and it feels mostly all about bathrooms!  For one client, we designed two bathrooms, both modest in size, but where we added lots of function. The guest bathroom was complete first. Thankfully the homeowner was...Read More

More Client Work

June 14, 2012 by carole Leave a Comment

Warning in advance: this blog smacks of “horn-tootin”. I’m going back and still playing catch-up by photographing more client work.  The “F” family (no relation to Mr. F&F) was delightful. They have possibly the best behaved children ever since they played outside...Read More

New Versus Old

May 21, 2012 by carole 2 Comments

Swung by “Tar-jay” for the usual pantry items of t.p. and cleaning products.  Couldn’t help but get sucked into their home decor section where they have feature collections that change seasonally.  I see the attraction…I’ve fallen prey myself for the little...Read More

Purging 101 or Letting Go of the Stuff

January 24, 2012 by carole Leave a Comment

Arrived back in the mountains with a load to sell at Oddfellows after a “letting go of the stuff” session at my own home.

This settee had special meaning but it didn’t serve a function anymore for us. But, boy oh boy, letting go of the stuff seems really hard.

…the...Read More

Workspace Redesign

January 9, 2012 by carole Leave a Comment

workspace “before”

Not so long ago, in the throes of inventory acquisition, my workspace resembled an episode of Hoarders.

I had cleaned up my workspace since then but hadn’t made it the cozy, functional space I envisioned. Mr. F&F also shares...Read More

Interior Redesign

October 19, 2011 by carole 1 Comment

Just finished up our restyling services at a client’s house after a day and a half of refining and editing their existing decor.

We focused on interior restyling services for the main floor for the master bedroom, family room, sunroom, dining room and living room. The basement...Read More

New Booth: Reality T.V. Hits Home

February 23, 2011 by carole Leave a Comment

This is one of the treasures I found at auction in the mountains this past weekend.  Thought it would make a great bar…then I opened it and discovered its multi-functional personality.

…so it could be a bar…or a foyer table…and with a small chair...Read More

Me & Martha Stewart

I confess that I love her. I have always admired Martha Stewart.

She teaches us homemaking skills and how to excel at them. And, as Oprah pointed out, who knew that baking excellent Read More

Monday Madness…or It’s 5 O’clock Somewhere?

June 28, 2010 by carole Leave a Comment

Busy Monday had me thinking that a bar would be nice. Although my usual quaff only requires a corkscrew and a nice popping sound, I still like the idea of a bar. I don’t have a trolley cart but I have a wooden counter area that “serves” as a bar. Had a lucite tray that was collecting...Read More

Tuesday Towels, continued…

June 22, 2010 by carole Leave a Comment

If ever there was a place to let whimsy reign…that would be a child’s bathroom. There are many things (beyond Donna’s towel idea) that I love about this design. It incorporates recycling (an old tub, found-object art, former-dresser-turned-sink-cabinet), her eclectic style and lots...Read More

Carole Marcotte

My name is Carole and I am a caring, efficient and passionate interior decorator. I help clients create stylish, functional homes that respect their past while designing for their future. After extensive research, I work tirelessly to blend clients’ existing and new decor into the overall design scheme. I love what I do.

My ideal for the design world in general (I can dream big, can’t I?): People will stop buying crap, refurbish and highlight their existing treasures and, if they absolutely need more stuff, buy only resale items (vintage, antique, consignment or the like). And if it must be new stuff, it will provide significant function, environmental sustainability or support our artists and thereby feed our soul. I am on a mission…care to join me?

My blog is a little bit decorating tips, a little bit travel, and a whole lotta love and design musings. Xo
