Let’s be honest…who doesn’t love a good gallery wall?

Whether full of family photos, funky flea market finds, or original art, they always catch the eye and are a great way to fill empty wall space (not to mention they’re all over the pages of every home magazine and...Read More

Old Books Craft Project

I am inspired by the patina of old book pages, but sometimes these lovely old books are beyond repair. My team has found a good way to reuse and upcycle them with this old books craft project. Back in the day (as in last year), Bad Boy tore out pages from a tattered,...Read More

No Money Monday: Cleaning Items

July 28, 2014 by carole Leave a Comment

The bad part of a road trip is the arrival home.  This latest trip included hunting and pecking through Tennessee with my friend, Jim, who also sells antiques. Arriving home, I always have that sinking feeling that I have to unload the car immediately. Sometimes...Read More

Salon Wall

June 18, 2012 by carole Leave a Comment

This master bath renovation has me in a tizzy, making me want to change everything in the house right this very minute.

Decided to swap out some artwork over the sofa (which is M.I.A. at the upholsterer’s right now, getting swathed in a beautiful blue velvet) as an easy update...Read More

Gilded Gold Leaf Mirrors DIY Tutorial

February 6, 2011 by carole Leave a Comment

I’m not trying to channel Liberace with all this gold leaf, really I’m not.

It’s just that recent projects begged to be gilded. I imagine ultimately a mix of modern with more sedate traditional, but for now it’s gold leaf, folks. Got two mirrors at auction and the...Read More

Gilded French Chairs

January 29, 2011 by carole 1 Comment

Got these gilded french chairs at auction and decided today, after thorough inspection and cleaning, that the fabric is in pretty good shape.

Devoted time instead to repairing nicks and chips on the wood part of the gilded french chairs.  All the little nooks and crannies...Read More

If You Can Make It, Sister…

August 31, 2010 by carole Leave a Comment

Then you shouldn’t buy it. Or something to that effect. It’s a pact I made with my sister-in-law when we were in some home decor store years ago. I can’t make a couch, of course! Nor can I hand carve wood, or make certain accessories, but I can redo a lampshade. Had some great lamps...Read More

No Money Monday…Almost

April 26, 2010 by carole Leave a Comment

Habitat for Humanity – one of my favorite sources for material-in-the-raw and helping a great cause. This treasure, in all its 70s glory – ugly wood panelling, fibre board sides, and morose stain – had its place in a disco den where everyone threw their keys in the middle...Read More

Carole Marcotte

My name is Carole and I am a caring, efficient and passionate interior decorator. I help clients create stylish, functional homes that respect their past while designing for their future. After extensive research, I work tirelessly to blend clients’ existing and new decor into the overall design scheme. I love what I do.

My ideal for the design world in general (I can dream big, can’t I?): People will stop buying crap, refurbish and highlight their existing treasures and, if they absolutely need more stuff, buy only resale items (vintage, antique, consignment or the like). And if it must be new stuff, it will provide significant function, environmental sustainability or support our artists and thereby feed our soul. I am on a mission…care to join me?

My blog is a little bit decorating tips, a little bit travel, and a whole lotta love and design musings. Xo
