REALLY looking forward to this Thanksgiving vacation, relaxing with Mr. F&F and the kids. Fast gear describes the last ten months and only by getting away can I actually slow down.
In order to clear the calendar for travel, yesterday we loaded in at a client’s house we’ve helped the last couple months. Bad boy and I finished the load-in and I drove the 37 miles back to the store to unload my van that was filled from an auction. Next I created vignettes in the store before turning around and driving back the way I just came! Packed and finally hit the road at 3 pm with Little Man.
Normally it takes us 3 1/2 to 4 hours to get to the mountains. 5 1/2 hours later we pulled into our favorite Mexican restaurant in Asheville. What a rainy, congested cluster-you-know-what out there on the roads. Woke up this morning to two inches of snow over ice and spent two hours shoveling the driveway. Here’s little man and me, smiling that we are finally done.
After procuring “ICY MELT”, a new shovel and a slidey-sled thing for Little Man, and hitting three grocery stores for Thanksgiving food, I finally switched into “play” mode. Not much a hot bath, some cocoa and a fire can’t cure.
Mr. F&F and college boy and girl arrived at cocktail hour. Good timing, sir! We had a lovely “hors d’oeuvres” dinner and college boy is serenading us with his latest instrument, a melodica. College girl (formerly known as middle child!) is dancing around the living room and we’re about to watch a Christmas movie. And, despite all the shoveling, I am happy to have a white Thanksgiving and be housebound tomorrow, cooking with those I love. Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours and hope that you are enjoying time with loved ones as well.
