September 8, 2020 by carole 6 Comments

Living Family Room Area Media Unit

Just moved my son into his new college pad and I am pumped with several cool decorating ideas.

First and foremost, I need to make a disclaimer. My son’s apartment is decked to the max because he loves design and, well, I am his mother. A rising senior in a work co-op program, he makes...Read More

Thankful Thursday: Shopping for Vintage

Shopping for Vintage Furniture and Goods

I am reminded lately how lucky I am to do what I do.  Life is short so you better love what you do.  Someone commented recently that it must be wonderful to go shopping all the time for the store. I grumbled that it IS work, after all, even...Read More

NYC Finale

May 3, 2012 by carole Leave a Comment

In this last installment, NYC Finale, I had a packed remaining couple of days.

Sunday I took the subway up to Harlem to meet the fam for brunch at Red Rooster, part of mega-star Marcus Samuelsson’s...Read More

Habitat for Humanity, or Thrifting 101 for College Boy

July 14, 2011 by carole Leave a Comment

You can lead a horse to water but you cannot make it drink…or insert any familiar proverb with same meaning.  Financial literacy is something I’ve strived to teach my children from day one, and especially beginning in earnest in middle school.  It comes more naturally...Read More

Yessir, We Got Doors

March 2, 2011 by carole 3 Comments

Yup, those are old doors in the back of my van, that are about to become upcycled doors turned walls.

My booth has been confirmed and I’ll be moving into Hunt and Gather next week. Between now and then I travel to Canada to visit my aging parents, so Mr. F&F is in charge...Read More

Decorating for a Cause, Part Two

February 10, 2011 by carole 4 Comments

Awhile back I spoke about The Green Chair Project, a furniture bank that accepts donations which are then distributed to people in transition.   In little over seven months, they secured a lease on a larger space…6000...Read More

Thinking Outside the Box: A & B Store Fixtures

January 11, 2011 by carole 3 Comments

Had to source some display pieces for a client today and head to A & B Store Fixtures (that I never discovered this gem before today, boggles my mind).  The store is a great resource for a lot of stuff,  originally store display fixtures, and many are suitable for the home. ...Read More

College Life

September 25, 2010 by carole Leave a Comment

Went to my son’s parent weekend – enjoyed a slice of college life and explored this wonderfully diverse campus. The best ice cream (reputedly in the whole state) is here and it lived up to its name…

Walked around campus, enjoying the older architecture and...Read More

…or give me nuttin’. Too hot out there today, but still enjoyed the treasures and the always creative vignettes…

These Italian leather-covered bottles revived sweet memories for me,...Read More

Someone Else’s Treasure

September 20, 2010 by carole Leave a Comment

The old saying really starts with “someone else’s junk,” but in this case, I assume it was their treasure. They clearly wanted it back if they loaned it out, or they wanted to identify special contents because, as you’ll see, on the bottom…

…they...Read More

No Money Monday…Almost

April 26, 2010 by carole Leave a Comment

Habitat for Humanity – one of my favorite sources for material-in-the-raw and helping a great cause. This treasure, in all its 70s glory – ugly wood panelling, fibre board sides, and morose stain – had its place in a disco den where everyone threw their keys in the middle of the...Read More

Carole Marcotte

My name is Carole and I am a caring, efficient and passionate interior decorator. I help clients create stylish, functional homes that respect their past while designing for their future. After extensive research, I work tirelessly to blend clients’ existing and new decor into the overall design scheme. I love what I do.

My ideal for the design world in general (I can dream big, can’t I?): People will stop buying crap, refurbish and highlight their existing treasures and, if they absolutely need more stuff, buy only resale items (vintage, antique, consignment or the like). And if it must be new stuff, it will provide significant function, environmental sustainability or support our artists and thereby feed our soul. I am on a mission…care to join me?

My blog is a little bit decorating tips, a little bit travel, and a whole lotta love and design musings. Xo
