Went beyond my usual haunts, exploring Carrboro and Chapel Hill. First stop, Surplus Sids, which you just have to see for yourself…an unbelieveable collection of military surplus. I’m not particularly militaristic, but I think the camo netting could be super cute in a little boy’s room…
The outside staging area has mostly furniture, but you just might find a mask or a $7.99 painting….
…went home with this for an upcoming project…
…and came dangerously close to buying this…
…inside there are items with “decor” potential but come with your imagination…you might also discover a navy peacoat or great, old rainboots…it’s an eclectic, fun mix with amazing prices…
…or perhaps a handcrafted art piece made from various surplus items, an ode to Leonardo’s ornithopter…
From Sid’s I head to Oddities and Such, in a building that current owner Richard Watt’s father built. Interesting collection with definitely a fitting name…
Last stop Good Bones, fabulous store with a mid-century vibe. STEAL of the week, this desk by Drexel at five hundred buck-a-roos. Same desk on Ebay at $2000…
…might have to go back for this walnut bar…
…other finds…
…the owner is also a talented photographer with select pieces for sale…
…and lastly, Nate Berkus (Oprah’s darling) stopped in Chapel Hill to interview Elizabeth Edwards and spotted Good Bones next door. Frankly, it’s the only “good thing” he’s done so far on that show IMHO…giving publicity to a wonderful, little gem of a store…
