Decorating for a Cause, Part Two

February 10, 2011 by carole 4 Comments

Awhile back I spoke about The Green Chair Project, a furniture bank that accepts donations which are then distributed to people in transition.   In little over seven months, they secured a lease on a larger space…6000 square feet which quickly filled.  This go round they are better able to display their goods, giving clients an opportunity to shop with dignity in a space that feels like a real store with “new” stuff.  I have had fun, fluffing and playing with all the goods…I’m always amazed at how random stuff can look.  A chair that came from one person with a sofa from another, donated pillows and accessories all thrown together for someone starting a new life.  While we may be tired of something and think it’s dated, it could be the very thing to make someone feel warm and safe.  Several living room vignettes from which to shop…

…pick a lamp and some art…

…stop by the kitchen shelves and pick a “starter pack” that Janet creatively pieced together… and don’t forget appliances, cleaned up and working…

…bedding and towels lovingly packaged in a basket and tied with a bow by Laverna…

…dining sets…

…all this as a result of two women (Beth and Jackie) seeing a need in their community to make everyone feel at home…

Remember…your cast-offs are someone else’s treasure.

Laverna? How many of those in town could there be? Wonder if we have yet another mutual friend? This looks great. I can’t wait to come by for open house – will do that when you are there!!
