Now that the walls are painted, the floors done and the lights up, it’s time to explore some furniture ideas.

As always, certain measurements are important. Also, think about how you live when making furniture purchases. Sometimes a shift in your existing furniture arrangement makes...Read More

Headboards

Headboard Design Ideas

I came across a stash of magazines my mother had, dating from the mid to late ’90s. It goes to show that many headboard design ideas are timeless and crafted from different reclaimed materials. I loved this one crafted from tin ceiling tiles.

Old tin ceiling...Read More

Thankful Thursday: Shopping for Vintage

Shopping for Vintage Furniture and Goods

I am reminded lately how lucky I am to do what I do.  Life is short so you better love what you do.  Someone commented recently that it must be wonderful to go shopping all the time for the store. I grumbled that it IS work, after all, even...Read More

Old Versus New

Fake-tiques

I’ve done this before…please join me and take the “old versus new” challenge.   What can you find new that has a perfectly acceptable twin that is old?   Many big box stores, Read More

Store Happenings Part Two

April 25, 2013 by carole 2 Comments

We are getting closer.

Bust a move…that’s what we’ve been doing around F&F.  We’ve been working hard to create “rooms” around the store that will retain their names but with the addition of new merchandise weekly.  Here’s another glimpse...Read More

Store Happenings

April 23, 2013 by carole Leave a Comment

This last month has been a blur. When I got back from gift mart in Atlanta there was good news in the form of Bad Boy’s return to the east coast.  He arrived while...Read More

Day in the Life of a Store Owner

February 28, 2013 by carole Leave a Comment

All store, all the time makes for random posts. Today was a crazy, jumbled mixed-up day. Perhaps a snapshot into the day in the life of a store owner? A bit of miscellany for you.

8 am

Got this dresser back yesterday from the guy who Read More

Focus on Carts

February 25, 2013 by carole 2 Comments

Perhaps there is nothing quite as functional as the humble cart.  It seems that several carts have been finding their way into F&F land lately. Different kinds of carts but each with their own quirks and “form.”  Each cart required some work and that was a learning curve for...Read More

Fall Projects

September 22, 2012 by carole 7 Comments

As soon as the cool weather hits I feel inspired to get some fall projects done. The bathroom reno spilled over into the bedroom which received a fresh coat of paint, trim added to existing curtains, and new bedding. Our inherited 1920s furniture suite seemed weary but had great bones and included...Read More

New Versus Old

May 21, 2012 by carole 2 Comments

Swung by “Tar-jay” for the usual pantry items of t.p. and cleaning products.  Couldn’t help but get sucked into their home decor section where they have feature collections that change seasonally.  I see the attraction…I’ve fallen prey myself for the little...Read More

Family Room Makeover

April 18, 2012 by carole Leave a Comment

The family room is my most troublesome room.

We have never felt comfortable, hate the couch I bought, tried to make chairs work with the rug by slipcovering, blah, blah, blah.  Mr. F&F and I sit there to read the morning paper, he in his chair and I in mine.  We stare across...Read More

Chippy and Rusty

January 31, 2012 by carole Leave a Comment

I love things chippy and rusty, and generally old things that can be transformed with new uses.

Too “rustic” may not be everyone’s cup of tea but they can be cool when mixed with more refined things.  That’s my favorite style right now…mixing...Read More

Pseudo Refinishing

December 13, 2011 by carole Leave a Comment

I don’t like refinishing work, so I avoid it at all costs. PERIOD.

Thankfully there are many products on the market that allow you to “cheat” away scratches and other imperfections.  Goo Gone (see...Read More

A Typical Day

November 15, 2011 by carole 4 Comments

I’ve read other bloggers who give a “day-in-the-life” account of their typical day, so I thought I’d try the same.

Don’t ask me why I chose today…nothing special, nothing terribly exciting…just a typical day.

6:20 a.m

Alarm goes...Read More

Carole Marcotte

My name is Carole and I am a caring, efficient and passionate interior decorator. I help clients create stylish, functional homes that respect their past while designing for their future. After extensive research, I work tirelessly to blend clients’ existing and new decor into the overall design scheme. I love what I do.

My ideal for the design world in general (I can dream big, can’t I?): People will stop buying crap, refurbish and highlight their existing treasures and, if they absolutely need more stuff, buy only resale items (vintage, antique, consignment or the like). And if it must be new stuff, it will provide significant function, environmental sustainability or support our artists and thereby feed our soul. I am on a mission…care to join me?

My blog is a little bit decorating tips, a little bit travel, and a whole lotta love and design musings. Xo
