Got these gilded french chairs at auction and decided today, after thorough inspection and cleaning, that the fabric is in pretty good shape.
Devoted time instead to repairing nicks and chips on the wood part of the gilded french chairs. All the little nooks and crannies made this tedious. Gold-leafing seems like a party in comparison.
After trying small paintbrushes and other gadgets, I found that this was my best tool for applying the gilt.
I’ve started cleaning and repairing other items that will eventually grace Form & Function’s retail space.
Yes, I’m insane. After looking at retail spaces with the notion of a “storefront,” I’ve backed off and decided to go in a multi-vendor-type space (location as yet to be determined). Give it some time, brand my name before embarking on the expensive retail option. “Mr. F&F” questions the idea of purchasing goods before said space is decided; I, however, like knowing that I’m ready to go should space open within the coming weeks.
The hardest part? Not keeping any of the purchases for myself.
These chairs, for example. I can imagine them in the boudoir where Mr. F & F and I can engage in civil discourse about the virtues of business versus creativity, planning and accounting…blah, blah, blah. I would, of course, be in a silk robe and he in his smoking jacket and the chairs would look smashing.
Belle says
Please keep the chairs and let’s go shop for a smoking jacket!! I’m sure we can also find a suitable kimono-style robe for you.
