Recent Design Work

June 11, 2011 by carole Leave a Comment

I’m not really good about posting my recent design work, but today I went to do some follow-up work at a wonderful clients’ home and actually brought my camera.

The painting above was the inspiration for the design work that followed. This picture belonged to the wifes’ parents and it’s the home they lived in in New Zealand. I loved the painting itself, how it was framed, and especially the meaning for the family. The clients had the couches and other major pieces of furniture, and some accessories. I filled in with pillows, rug, drapes and cool, vintage accessories. This family likes the beach, so I made sure to incorporate certain “beachy” elements.

Here’s the overall view of the living room/dining room combined space.

Kept the dining room simple with a beautiful scalloped, silver bowl with vintage wooden fruit and used the clients’ placemats to make a “faux runner.”

Kept sideboard equally simple with a cool “scratch” painting above.

I found this at auction and it’s like art we did as children with color underneath and black on top that has been “scratched” out. It represents the NYC skyline with cool 50s vibe.

Gotta have a bar.

Love the “rooster” cocktail shaker, vintage striped bourbon bottle, milkglass with cork, and small blue glass nut dishes, all found at auction.

Created little vignettes on side tables with family photos and clients’ books sprinkled with vintage accessories.

And a vignette with clients’ old typewriter, vintage accessories and painting from F&F.

Finally, a relaxing reading nook complete with silver mirror to reflect the daylight from adjacent window.

Sometimes I’m just doing “art walls” for clients or small areas, so I don’t always remember to document.  My new year’s resolution in June is to better document my design work.
