The Gregg Museum at North Carolina State University has a mere two rooms but they present some wonderful exhibits. The most recent, Southern Roots of Mid Century Modern, presents a cross section of this era circa 1950s. NCSU grad, Matthew Gay, does a beautiful job in his curatorial debut. The exhibit also showcases speakers; this evening was a collectors’ panel, folks who loaned items for the exhibit. The show ran the gamut, from an amazing collection of Russel Wright pottery…
…to an Eames lounge chair and Eames plywood chair…two iconic pieces…
…the exhibit interspersed clothes amongst the furniture…a nice touch…
George Nakashima table and chairs…
…a living room vignette that includes a striking George Bireline painting…
…and the bedroom…
…another section presented well-documented bios, plans and models from regional architects…including one of our area’s most noteworthy buildings, Dorton Arena…
Catch this little gem of show until December 18th.
